Airendiel bit her lip as she looked at the slim rope, the only way to cross the river. 'Alright,' she thought to herself, 'No time like the present.' She crossed the rope as quickly as she could. Her foot slipped a bit as she got off at the other side, impulsively she reached out for the tree and held onto it till her heart beat returned to normal.

Haldir gasped when Airendiel slipped and he went to her as quickly as possible. "Release the tree, I will help you." He said and put his arm around her waist to support her.

Airendiel hesitantly released the tree and allowed herself to be helped off. When her feet touched the solid ground she took a deep breath and closed her eyes. Becoming aware of the fact that she was shaking she gently removed Haldir's arm from her waist, "Thank you Haldir. I think I need to sit down for a moment." She sat and leaned her back against a tree and closed her eyes again.

"Are you sure you are all right?" Haldir asked with much concern in his voice.

Airendiel took deep, shaking breaths, "I'm unharmed, just shaken. I'll be alright in a moment." She placed her head in her hands, her breath finally returning to normal.

Haldir waited patiently while Airendiel got her composure back.

Airendiel took one last deep breath and stood, "Thank you again Haldir, I'm not sure if I would have had the courage to let go of the tree without your help." She smiled a bit as she said the last bit, "Well, I suppose we'd best get going. Lead the way."

Haldir smiled and bowed. "This way then." He said as he turned and started toward the City.

Airendiel smiled as she walked behind Haldir, just absorbing the beauty of Lothlorien, she had the feeling that somehow she belonged here. Though she wasn't sure why she felt that.

Haldir noticed how much more peaceful Airendiel seemed since starting through Lothlorien. It was one of the most peaceful places in Middle Earth. He inhaled the sweet scent of the forest and smiled to himself. He looked back at Airendiel and smiled broader. "How did I get so lucky?" He thought to himself.

As Airendiel kept walking the sense of belonging grew, as did a sense of peace. She sighed and smiled, happy to not have to worry about anything, just to be here with Haldir, somehow being near him made everything easier. Suddenly a memory hit Airendiel with such force that she was knocked to her knees, at least she was fairly sure it was a memory. A woman with wheat blonde hair and blue eyes smiled down at her, the background was the very forest where she now stood. When the memory released her she realized that tears had begun to trickle down her cheeks. She closed her eyes and hoped that the feeling of loss would leave soon.

Haldir noticed Airendiel's change of mood and he stopped and looked at her with a questioning look. "Airendiel, what is it?" He asked softly.

Airendiel took a deep breath and wipped the tears from her cheeks. "A memory I think, one long lost to me. There was a woman, I think she was my mother, though I cannot be sure." Another tear slid down her cheek, she brushed it away, frustrated that she couldn't seem to stop crying.

Haldir took Airendiel's hand and guided her to a soft patch of grass where they could sit until she regained her composure. "We'll wait until you feel you can continue. I won't pressure you for details about your memory. We can just sit in silence, if you wish it." He said in a near whisper.

Airendiel moved herself so that she sat right next to Haldir, "Thank you for putting up with this Haldir." She sat, unmoving and silent for a while, letting the other old memories resurface. Thankfully her tears had finally dried.
